Very sad news. Bob was a shipmate on Weather Surveyor from 1968 to 1973 when I left OWS and went to West Africa with GATE. I also met up with him in the 1980s when he was at London Weather Centre and I was at London Port Met Office. Many a laugh during off duty times on Surveyor, especially when playing Scrabble.
